Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
At Purple Pen Wordsmithing, we believe that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging are essential for fostering innovation, creativity, and growth. We are committed to building and sustaining a culture that embraces people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences while we elevate and amplify authentic voices from underrepresented groups.
We recognize diversity across many dimensions, including race, ethnicity, gender, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and others. We strive to ensure equitable opportunities and an environment where every individual feels respected, valued, and able to bring their full authentic selves to the work we do together.
Some of our current DEIB efforts include:
Studying Conscious Language and attending associated trainings.
Providing input about anti-bias and cultural competency throughout the editorial process.
Building a network of diverse editors and other publishing professionals.
Engaging with diverse content and learning to feel comfortable being uncomfortable.
Acknowledging outside resources are necessary to ensure accurate representation of underrepresented groups.
We understand that building a truly inclusive culture is an ongoing journey. We are dedicated to continuously evaluating our policies, educating ourselves, and taking meaningful actions to create positive change within our organization and beyond.
We invite you to join us in upholding these important values and principles. Together, we can unlock the transformative power of diversity.
Land Acknowledgement
We would like to acknowledge that the land where we live and work is the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary homeland of many Indigenous nations—most recently the Anishinabek (including Potawatomi, Chippewa/Ojibwe, and Odawa) tribal nations.
We also acknowledge the painful history of genocide, forced relocation, and removal of many from this territory, and we honor and respect the many Indigenous peoples, including those of the Three Fires Alliance, who are still connected to the land beneath our feet.
