Preserving Your Voice.
Perfecting Your Craft.
Partnering for the Long Haul.
Romance Editor. Writing Coach. Long-Term Partner.
Since 2012, I’ve helped authors polish their prose, strengthen their craft, and publish with confidence—again and again.
Why Should You Choose Purple Pen Wordsmithing?
I’ve been a romance editor since 2012, and my business runs on referrals from authors I’ve worked with for years—some for over a decade. Here’s why they stay:
-
You’ll understand the why behind every suggestion and improve your craft for the next book—just like my students did with every writing assignment over the course of my 27-year teaching career.
-
Line/copy editing that also spots plot holes and sketchy character arcs? Yes, please. I provide the secondary read-through most developmental editors don’t offer.
-
You’re a long-term partner, and I’m invested in your growth as a writer.
Services
Who I Work With
I work with primarily romance authors who want to improve their craft.
If you’re hungry to learn, open to feedback, and ready to level up your writing, we’ll work well together. New author or experienced, I meet your skill level and help you grow from there.
Also, I’m neurodivergent and create a supportive space for all authors, including (especially) neurodiverse writers. Different brains, different stories.
-
I polish your prose while preserving your voice and your characters’ voices. Every edit includes coaching on why changes strengthen your story—so you learn for next time.
-
A two-pass service. Once in Word, and once in print-formatted PDF to catch those pesky items related to formatting as well as typos.
-
Standalone coaching or embedded in every edit—your choice. I offer mini-classes on specific writing topics with exercises you apply directly to your manuscript. Grow your skills with hands-on, personalized support designed by a veteran educator.

How It Works
What Authors Say
-
I’ve worked with Wendee in several editorial capacities over the last decade. Originally hired as an editor for my publishing house, Turquoise Morning Press, she quickly became one of my most reliable editors. When I closed the publishing house, I retained Wendee as my personal editor. Fast-forward a few years, and we were working together, writing and editing projects for a national non-profit organization. We have worked together on numerous fiction and non-fiction works. Wendee provides hones, creative, developmental, and technical feedback in a professional manner. She’s still my editor and a valuable asset to my publishing team!
Maddie James/Kim Jacobs
Creative Professional, Founder Maddie James Books -
I am an author of contemporary and historical romance and romantic memoir. Wendee has been the editor of every one of my books. Under her careful eye and informed guidance, each manuscript I have sent her has been returned to me with developmental edits that have enhanced my story in a way that improves my readers’ experience. When we get down to the nitty-gritty of line edits and proofreading, there is not a top, a grammatical error, or misspelled word that she misses.
I am a better writer because of all that I have learned from Wendee. She even edits my dreaded “back cover blurbs.”
As I often tell fellow authors and readers, not one of my books sees the light of day until Wendee gives it her stamp of approval.
